Finland took part in the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow with a delegation of 105 athletes (99 men and 6 women) in 71 competitions in 16 sports.
The Finnish athletes won three gold, one silver and four bronze medals. With that, Finland took twelfth place in the medal table . Olympic champions were the archer Tomi Poikolainen , the rower Pertti Karppinen in a single and the sailor Esko Rechardt in the Finn dinghy. The athlete Kaarlo Maaninka won the silver medal over 10,000 meters and the bronze medal over 5000 meters. The three other bronze medals were won by the archer Päivi Aaltonen , the welterweight wrestler Mikko Huhtala in the Greco-Roman style and the sailors Georg Tallberg and Jouko Lindgren in the 470 dinghy. The standard bearer at the opening ceremony was the sailor Peter Tallberg .
