Ethiopia took part in the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow with a delegation of 41 athletes (39 men and 2 women) in 26 competitions in three sports.

The athlete Miruts Yifter was Olympic champion both over 5000 meters and over 10,000 meters . The other two medals, both bronze medals, were won by the athletes Mohamed Kedir over 10,000 meters and Eshetu Tura over 3000 meters.
