Kebede Balcha

Kebede Balcha (born September 7, 1951 - † July 10, 2018 in Toronto ) was an Ethiopian marathon runner .

At the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki in 1983 , he won the silver medal in 2:10:27 behind Robert De Castella (AUS) and ahead of Olympic champion Waldemar Cierpinski (GDR).

Further successes are the gold medal at the African marathon championship in 1979 in Dakar , four victories at the Montreal marathon (1979, 1981, 1983, 1985), a fourth place at the London marathon 1983, a second place at the Frankfurt marathon 1984 and at the 1985 Tokyo International Men's Marathon and a bronze medal at the 1987 Pan-African Games .

He set his best time of 2:10:03 in 1983 in Montreal .
