Kyra Maria Christine Kyrklund (born November 30, 1951 in Helsinki ) is a successful Finnish dressage rider and trainer .

Life

To get to the top in dressage, Kyra Kyrklund went to Germany and took lessons from Walter Christensen (1975–1977) and Herbert Rehbein (1980–1997). She successfully participated in five Olympic Games. She remains unforgettable with the stallion Matador (* 1979, † 2002), with whom she won the silver medal at the 1990 World Championships in Stockholm and the World Cup finals in Paris . Among her students were, among others, Leslie Morse and Nathalie zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg . Today Kyra Kyrklund lives with her husband Richard White in the county of Surrey , England . At the 2009 European Championships in Windsor, she was able to convince again on her 14-year-old gelding Max and achieved 9th place in the Grand Prix Spécial and 7th place in the freestyle . After the European Championships she said goodbye to Max from the sport and now wants to devote herself to her young horses.

In August 2010 she was elected President of the International Dressage Rider's Club (IDRC), representing the interests of internationally active dressage riders. She thus succeeded Margit Otto-Crépin .
