Holger "Hogge" Nurmela (born October 28, 1920 in Stockholm , † March 1, 2005 in Botkyrka ) was a Swedish ice hockey player .

Career

Holger Nurmela began his career as an ice hockey player in his hometown with Hammarby IF , for whose professional team he was active from 1938 to 1950 in Division 1 , which was then the highest Swedish league. With Hammarby he won the national championship title in 1942, 1943 and 1945 . He then spent two years with league rivals AIK Solna before he was on the ice for Saltsjöbadens IF from 1952 to 1955 . Most recently he played for his hometown club Hammarby IF for another year before ending his career at the age of 36.

International

For Sweden , Nurmela took part in the Winter Olympics in St. Moritz in 1948 , in Oslo in 1952 and in Cortina d'Ampezzo in 1956 . At the 1952 Winter Games, he and his team won the bronze medal. As the best European team, Sweden also became European champions. He was also in his country's squad at the 1954 World Cup , where he and his team also won the bronze medal.
