The all-German team took at the 1956 Summer Olympics in Australia's Melbourne and in the Swedish Stockholm (only competitions in equestrian sport in part) with a delegation of 172 athletes (148 men and 24 women) in 16 sports.

Flag bearer

The athlete Karl-Friedrich Haas carried the flag of Germany during the opening ceremony in Melbourne, in Stockholm it was carried by the show jumper Fritz Thiedemann .

With six won gold, silver and thirteen bronze medals seven the all-German team took 7th place in the medals table .
