Werner Delmes

Werner Delmes (born September 28, 1930 in Cologne ) is a former German hockey player . He won an Olympic bronze medal in 1956.

Werner Delmes participated in the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne in all five games of the German team. After the team had reached a goalless draw against the eventual Olympic winners Pakistan, they lost 1-0 in the semi-finals against the Indians. In the game for the bronze medal, the Germans won 3-1 against the British.

For this success he received - together with the Olympic hockey team - on May 21, 1957 the Silver Laurel Leaf.

Four years later, Delmes was also part of the German team that finished seventh at the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome. In total, Delmes played in 40 international matches from 1954 to 1962. Delmes played for Rot-Weiss Köln .

Werner Delmes celebrated his greatest success as a coach. The sports manager of the German Hockey Association was the coach of the German team at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich and brought the German team to their first Olympic victory. Paul Lissek 1992 and Markus Weise 2008 and 2012 were the other two coaches who led the men's national team to gold.
