Markus Weise (born December 19, 1962 in Mannheim ) is a former German hockey trainer who won Olympic gold with both the women's and men's national teams. In 2015 he moved to the DFB .

Career

Weise began playing hockey at TSV Mannheim at the age of nine . As a coach, he was in charge of the women's Bundesliga team at TSV Mannheim for a long time. He was also the coach of the German women's team , various junior teams of the German Hockey Federation and also assistant coach of the men's national team. He won the 2004 Olympic gold medal with the German national women's hockey team . Since November 6, 2006 he was the national coach of the German men's national hockey team . At the 2008 Olympic Games , Weise won the gold medal as a coach for the second time. In Beijing, he led the men's national hockey team to victory in the final against Spain. At the 2012 Olympic Games in London he was able to repeat his success with the men's team and won Olympic gold for the third time as a coach.

Markus Weise left his job in November 2015 to help set up a DFB academy. The final of the European Championship in London on August 29, 2015 was the last as coach of the national team.

Markus Weise left his position at DFB on July 31, 2019 at his own request. Most recently he headed the Academy's "Development and Innovation" department.

Private life

In July 2009, Weise married the former national hockey player Britta von Livonius , with whom he had a daughter born in 2008.
