Trainer of the year 2007:
Heiner Brand

The award Trainer of the Year is given annually by the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) for particularly deserving trainers in the field of top-class sport.

In 2005, the DOSB decided to create this award as part of its “Trainer Offensive for German Top Sport” initiative. The DOSB would like to increase the attractiveness of the coaching profession and draw public attention. The prize is endowed with 10,000 euros.

The first award winner in 2006 was Raimund Bethge , the head coach of the bobsleigh and sledge association for Germany . At the Olympic Winter Games in Turin 2006, the German bobsleigh athletes won three gold medals under his responsibility. Since Bethge's appointment as head coach, athletes he has coached have achieved 102 medals.

In 2007 the award was given to the head coach of the German men's national handball team, Heiner Brand . The handball players were able to achieve the world championship title under his leadership in 2007 . The DOSB also recognized Brand's commitment as chairman of the DSB coaching board until 2006.

In 2008 the DOSB honored the canoe trainer Rolf-Dieter Amend with the title . Amend has been the national coach in the German Canoe Association since 1991, responsible for the men's kayak. The national coach led athletes trained by him to six world championship titles and eight Olympic medals, including five gold medals.

In 2009 Kim Raisner (modern pentathlon), Uwe Müssiggang (biathlon) in 2010 and Markus Weise (hockey) in 2011 . In 2012, the award went to Hans Melzer , one of the German national coaches in eventing.
