Tietje (name)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tietje is a Low German family name and male given name .

Origin and meaning

Tietje is a short form of the old Germanic name Dietrich . It contains the Old High German words Diot or Diet (people) and rihhi (rich / powerful) or rihhan (to rule). So Dietrich and Tietje mean something like "The rich (powerful) in the people" or "The ruler of the people".

The old German names were later shortened, for example to Dide or Tide . As a nickname for children, this resulted in Lüttje (Kleiner) Tide or Lüttje Dide . Later the suffix -je was added directly as a diminutive and the names were henceforth Didje or Tidje . This then resulted in the onomatopoeic variant Tietje .

In old lists and documents, these names can first be found around 1907 in Borgfeld near Bremen .

The first name Tetje is related (see Tetje Mierendorf ).

Surname

The family names Tietje and Tietjen also come from the first name Tietje , which are particularly common in some of Bremen's districts and villages in the area. They mean something like from Tietje's family or Von Tietje's farm .
