Norbert Loch (born March 11, 1962 in Friedrichroda ) is a former German luge athlete and current national luge coach.

Norbert Loch was born in Friedrichroda, one of the luge strongholds of the GDR . He started tobogganing as a teenager on the Spießbergbahn . The tobogganer was trained by the ASK Vorwärts Oberhof at the children's and youth sports school (KJS) Oberhof . Loch celebrated his greatest success when he took part in the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo , where he finished 13th. After the games, he ended his career at the age of 21 and began training as a coach at the German University of Physical Culture (DHfK) in Leipzig . He then became a junior coach in Sonneberg . After the reunification , Loch received an offer from the sports manager of the Bavarian Bobsleigh and Sledging Association, Hans Fritz, to become a state trainer in Bavaria . He accepted the offer, moved to Berchtesgaden in 1992 and remained the Bavarian national coach for 17 years. The athletes he supports include Tobias Wendl , Tobias Arlt , Natalie Geisenberger and his son Felix Loch , who won gold medals in the toboggan competitions at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. In 2008 the previous national luge coach Thomas Schwab became managing director and sports director of the bobsleigh and sledge association for Germany . As his successor, Loch was appointed the new national coach.
