The duo has been competing in the World Cup since the 2006/07 season . In their first race in Winterberg they finished 12th. At their first Luge World Championships in 2007 , Wendl / Arlt finished ninth. They achieved their first World Cup top ten placement at the start of the following season in Lake Placid as seventh place. At Königssee they achieved a podium finish for the first time in second place behind Patric Leitner and Alexander Resch . In the overall standings, after they were used in all races of the season and achieved single-digit placings, they finished fifth and finally established themselves as the third toboggan double in Germany behind Leitner / Resch and André Florschütz / Torsten Wustlich in the World Cup. At the Luge World Championships in Oberhof in 2008 they won silver behind Florschütz / Wustlich and thus ensured a complete German triumph at this World Championship. In the 2008/09 season, Wendl / Arlt finally established themselves among the world's best and came fourth in the overall standings. In Oberhof they won a world cup race for the first time. At the World Championships in Lake Placid, Wendl / Arlt came in seventh. Wendl / Arlt finished fourth in the overall World Cup in the 2009/10 season as well . They won two world cup races in Königssee and Cesana Torinese . At the highlight of the season, the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver , the doubles could not take part because the world-class doubles Leitner / Resch and Florschütz / Wustlich were set as the winner and runner-up of the World Cup. Both doubles ended their careers after the season. This means that since the 2010/11 season, Wendl and Arlt have been Germany's new top double in luge. In the 2010/11 season she won four World Cups and made it onto the podium seven times. They won the overall World Cup with it. Furthermore, they won five times with the relay. After a weak start to the 2011/12 season with fourth and sixth place, they won in Calgary and at Königssee . Five more podium finishes in the World Cup followed, including another win in Winterberg. With the relay he reached the podium four times, one victory. At the European Luge Championships 2012 in Paramonowo, which was also classified as a World Cup race, they won the silver medal in both the doubles and the relay. At the highlight of the season, the Luge World Championships 2012 in Altenberg , they came fourth and missed a medal by seven thousandths of a second. In the overall World Cup, the Linger / Linger took second place, ten points behind .

At the beginning of the 2012/13 season , Wendl / Arlt won five World Cup races in a row until they were beaten by the Eggert / Benecken doubles in the World Cup race on January 12, 2013 in Oberhof, which was also classified as the European Championship . With victories in the last two races of the season, they won the overall ranking in the World Cup. At the 2013 World Championships in Whistler, Wendl / Arlt secured the title for the first time, which they also achieved with the team relay. In the winter of 2013/14 they were able to win the World Cup again with six wins . At the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi , Tobias Wendl and his partner Tobias Arlt won the gold medal by a large margin. In the 2014/15 season they came in 12 World Cup races, eleven times on the podium and six times in first place. In the overall World Cup they finished second, 16 points behind Eggert / Bennecken. They won four times with the relay. At the 2015 Luge World Championships in Sigulda , they won the gold medal in the doubles and in the relay.

Wendl / Arlt also achieved successes nationally. At the German championships they took third place in 2007 and 2008, and in 2010 they were runner-up behind Florschütz / Wustlich. In 2011 they were able to win the title for the first time. They also belonged to the winning team relay together with Natalie Geisenberger and Felix Loch .

In 2014 he was awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf for his sporting success .
