The early German Luge Championships 2010 took place on October 31, 2009 on the Winterberg Hochsauerland bobsleigh run . They were both the end and the highlight of the qualification for the Luge World Cup season 2009/10 . Due to the tight schedule, the championships were held last year at the beginning of the season.

Eleven tobogganers took part. Anke Wischnewski surprisingly won her first national title ahead of the two favorites, world champion Natalie Geisenberger and defending champion and overall world cup winner Tatjana Hüfner .

Men

There were 12 tobogganers at the start, one more than last year. Defending champion and world champion Felix Loch won ahead of fellow favorite David Möller .

Two-seater

There were seven doubles at the start, three more than last year. Patric Leitner and Alexander Resch did not start because of an injury, but were set for the World Cup due to their results from the previous season.

World Cup qualification

For the international training week from November 9th to 14th, 2009 on the Olympic bobsleigh and toboggan run in Whistler and for the first four World Cup races, the following qualified:

So there is only one change in the team compared to the previous season . Corinna Martini secured Steffi Sieger's place against her direct competitor Stefanie Sieger . Only until the fourth World Cup race, sledders and lugers inside the can the 2010 Winter Olympics from Vancouver qualify. This means that only the named drivers and doubles are eligible.
