For the first time, a relay competition was held at the German Championships. It also served as a test run for the first staging of this competition at the Luge World Championships 2012 on the Altenberger Bahn in Kohlgrund , where the relay competition replaced the team competition that was common until 2011. The composition of the relay teams was determined by the coach of the German national luge team and took place along the training groups. The "Sunshine Training Group" around Natalie Geisenberger , Felix Loch , Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt secured the title in the relay competition in front of the Thuringian team around Tatjana Hüfner , David Möller , Toni Eggert and Sascha Benecken - who were around 5 hundredths behind. The Saxon relay team with Anke Wischnewski , Ralf Palik , Ronny Pietrasik and Christian Weise went on to the bronze rank - their deficit was 95 hundredths. The second Thuringian season with Dajana Eitberger , Jan Eichhorn , Daniel Rothamel and Chris Rohmeiss was only fourth despite Eichhorn's fastest time, ahead of the Winterberger quartet Corinna Martini , Christian Paffe , Robin Geueke and David Gamm and the second Saxon team Anne Pietrasik , Chris Eißler , Julius Löffler and Andreas Wolf . The second Bavarian team around Carina Schwab , Julian von Schleinitz , Tim Brendel and Florian Funk reached rank 7, Team Thuringia 3 did not reach the goal due to the disqualification of Nathalie Burkhardt , who missed the touchpad to hand over the baton; Andi Langenhan as well as Nico Grüßner and Toni Förtsch could not start.
