history

The RC Berchtesgaden was founded on February 4, 1923 in Berchtesgaden. In the following year, the association was appointed by the German Toboggan Association to be the "chairman association" of the Upper and Lower Bavaria district association. In 1926, Bavarian championships were held for the first time by the RC Berchtesgaden, in which the local heroes won the titles. Since the first Olympic luge competitions in 1964, the club's athletes have won at least one medal at all Winter Olympic Games . The first Olympic medalist was Hans Plenk .

In addition to luge , the club now also has its own department for skeleton athletes .

Members

The club has around 300 members, including the active top athletes Felix Loch and Tobias Wendl . Many club members who used to be active as athletes themselves now occupy trainer or functionary positions in higher-level associations for tobogganing and skeleton sports. Josef Fendt is President of the World Luge Federation, Fédération Internationale de Luge de Course , Thomas Schwab General Director of the Bobsleigh and Sled Association for Germany (BSD), Norbert Loch German national trainer , Andreas Graitl Bavarian national trainer and Anja Huber trains the next generation of skeleton players at the BSD base in Berchtesgaden.

Most successful athletes

With Georg Hackl the hitherto most successful lugers for the club started.
