European Luge Championships

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The European Luge Championships , the European champions are in luge determined on the artificial track. The European championships have been held since 1914 in the single-seaters for men and women and in the double-seaters for men. A team competition has also been held as part of the European championships since 1988.

The European Luge Championships have been held every two years since 1980 in the even years (previously they were held irregularly or annually). The competitions have been held annually since 2012 and, in addition to the world championships, are a highlight of the tobogganing season on the artificial track. Since the European Championships also take place in the Olympic years immediately before the Olympic Winter Games and because the world's luge elite mostly come from Europe, they are a good test of form and performance with regard to the Olympic toboggan competitions.

The races at the European Championships have only been part of the Luge World Cup since 2012. In previous years it often happened that the world's elite stayed away from this event in order to prepare for the following World Cups and the World Championships.
