List of European champions in luge
The list of European champions in luge lists all athletes placed in the first three places at the European championships in luge . European championships in luge have been held since 1914 in the disciplines of singles for men and women and in doubles for men. Since 1988 a team competition has been held as part of the European championships, since 2010 as a team relay. For scheduling reasons, the European Championship has been held as a race-in-race as part of the Luge World Cup since 2012, just like the other continental championships .
Martin Tietze , Paul Aste , Maria Isser , Horst Hörnlein , Hans Rinn and Paul Hildgartner are the only luge athletes who have become European champions in both singles and doubles . The most successful athlete to date is the German Hans Rinn with seven European championship titles in both disciplines.
Single seater men
Single seater women
The 1914 race is often named the first ever European women's championship, but it was a prize rather than a championship race as part of the European championship event.
Two-seater
In 1954 there was a novelty when Maria Isser was the first woman to win a European championship title in doubles (together with Josef Isser ). To this day, the competition is open to both sexes, but is almost only contested by men.
