Oswald Haselrieder (born August 22, 1971 in Völs , South Tyrol ) is a former Italian luge rider . His two-seater partner was Gerhard Plankensteiner .

Career

Haselrieder has been involved in luge sport since 1987 . At the European Championships in Sigulda in 1996 , they took second place and third place in the team. At the 1996 World Championships in Altenberg , they took third place in the doubles as well as in the team and second place in the 1996/97 overall World Cup ranking. A year later at the World Championships in Igls they reached fifth place, third place in the team, and in the overall World Cup ranking in 1997/98 they fell one place back to third place. At the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano reached sixth place, and from then on, the placements in the World Cup, World and European Championships went up and down. At the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City , they only came in seventh place.

Together with his partner Plankensteiner, he won the bronze medal at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin . In the 2008/09 season he and his partner won the Challenge Cup for the first time. At the European Championships in 2008 on their home track in Cesana Pariol , the duo, both in the doubles and in the team, took third place. At the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver , Canada , they finished ninth. In September 2010 Haselrieder announced his retirement from competitive sports.
