Hans Brandner (born February 19, 1949 in Berchtesgaden ) is a former German luge athlete .

Hans Brandner is a trained plumber and temporarily lived in Ramsau near Berchtesgaden , where he and his family ran a hotel until 2011. He is married and has children. Brandner formed a two-seater with Balthasar Schwarm and competed in three Winter Olympics , in 1972 in Sapporo the two achieved fifth place. At the 1976 Olympic Games in Innsbruck Brandner / Schwarm won the silver medal behind the East German duo Hans Rinn and Norbert Hahn , and at the 1980 Olympic Games they finished the competition in seventh place at the end of Brandner's career.

For this achievement, Hans Brandner and his partner Balthasar Schwarm were awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf .

In 1979 they beat Rinn / Hahn at the World Championships in Königssee , their club mates and long-time competitors Winkler / Wembacher finished third. Two years earlier, Brandner / Schwarm won the bronze medal in Igls . At the European Championships they won gold once (1977) and silver (1972), as well as twice bronze (1973, 1980). In 1978 the duo came second and in 1979 third in the overall World Cup. In 1971, 1972, 1973, 1975, 1977, 1979 and 1980 the two athletes starting for RC Berchtesgaden became German champions.
