Martin Tietze

Martin Tietze (born October 23, 1908 , † September 13, 1942 in the Soviet Union ) was a German luge athlete .

Martin Tietze, who came from Brückenberg in the Riesengebirge , was the most successful luge rider of the 1930s and Fritz Preissler's great competitor . He was European champion four times in a row in 1934, 1935, 1937 and 1938. That makes him the record European champion to this day. In 1939 he won the silver medal. Tietze was also very successful in the two-seater and won gold with his partner Kurt Weidner in Oslo in 1937 , after having won silver the year before. In the singles he was in 1930, 1931, 1934 and 1938, in the doubles (with Kurt Weidner, 1935 with Willi Händler ) in 1930, 1931, 1935 and 1938 German champion. In 1942 he fell during the war against the Soviet Union . His younger sister Friedel Tietze was also a world class luge athlete.
