Steffen Wöller
Steffen Wöller (born September 10, 1972 in Erfurt ) is a former German luge athlete .
Steffen Wöller and his partner Steffen Skel formed one of the strongest and most successful two-seater luge of the 1990s and early 2000s. Twice, in 1998 and 2002 , the duo competed at the Winter Olympics . They finished eighth in Nagano in 1998 , but four years later in Salt Lake City they missed the bronze medal in fourth behind the Americans Chris Thorpe and Clay Ives by only about one and a half tenths of a second. At the 2000 World Championships , Skel / Wöller won the gold medal with the German team. There was also silver with the doubles, which they won in 2001 in the doubles and with the team, and once doubles bronze in 1997 .
The greatest success was winning the 2004 European championship in Oberhof in a two-seater. Both won the title with the team in 2002 and 2004. There is also silver with the doubles in 1998 and in the doubles in 2000, as well as with the team in 2000. In 2000/01 , Skel and Wöller won the overall World Cup . In 1999/2000 and 2001/02 they finished second behind their national long-term competitors Patric Leitner and Alexander Resch . Once, in 1993/94 , the two finished third. In 1993, 2000 and 2004 Skel / Wöller became German champions. In 2004 they ended their careers.
After his active career, Steffen Wöller became a coach. Corinna Martini and Madeleine Teuber were among his protégés at BSC Winterberg . He is the federal base trainer in Winterberg, was the head coach of the German junior luge team from 2013 to 2018 and in 2018, together with Andi Langenhan, took over the supervision of the German luge B team.
