Clay Ives

Clay Ives (born September 5, 1972 in Bancroft , Ontario ) is a Canadian - American luge athlete .

Clay Ives competed in three Winter Olympics. At the 1994 Games in Lillehammer he started for Canada as well as in 1998 in Nagano . In 1994 he finished eighth in the two-seater with Robert Gasper , and in the single-seater he came 20th. Four years later he was 15th in the single-seater. As a holder of dual Canadian and US citizenship, Ives changed associations in 2000 to form a double with Chris Thorpe . At the 2002 Games , he won the bronze medal with his partner Thorpe.

Starting for Canada, Ives was able to place himself in the points of the World Cup again and again, but he only achieved better results as a partner of Thorpe. The best place was a second place in Winterberg in 2002. In the overall World Cup both achieved the best results in 2000/01 and 2001/02 with ninth place. He also achieved his best results at world championships, the best result was a ninth place in 2001 . At the North American Championships 2001 Ives won the silver medal with Thorpe.
