Jörg Hoffmann (luge rider)

Jörg Hoffmann (born March 15, 1963 in Sondershausen ) is a former German luge athlete .

Hoffmann, who started for ASK Vorwärts Oberhof , together with Jochen Pietzsch , formed one of the best two-seater duos in the 1980s, the two opposing the West German Hans Stanggassinger and Franz Wembacher .

At the 1988 Olympic Games in Calgary , he and Pietzsch experienced his greatest sporting success when the two Thuringian Olympic champions became doubles. In addition, the two celebrated numerous other successes such as the three-time success at world championships. Hoffmann not only competed in the two-seater, in 1985 he also became vice world champion in the single-seater. For his Olympic victory in 1988 he was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in gold.
