Walter Feist from Flinsberg won the German championship for the first time in 1927 in Schierke with his partner and older brother Richard Feist in a two-seater. The following year, the doubles in Schreiberhau with silver behind Herbert Elger and Wilhelm Adolf won their first medal at the European Championships . In 1929 he won his first continental title in a two-seater with Richard Feist in Semmering . The doubles in Oybin also won the title nationally, and he also won it in the individual competition. Feist won the single title again in 1932 in Bad Tölz , and in 1933 in Schreiberhau in doubles with Richard Feist. In Ilmenau he and his new partner and nephew Walter Kluge won the title at the two-seater competitions of the European Championships in 1934 and in Krynica in 1935 . In 1937 the duo had to admit defeat to their compatriots Martin Tietze and Kurt Weidner in Oslo and won silver, while nationally in Oybin gold. In 1938 in Salzburg and in 1939 in Liberec Feist / Kluge won the gold medals again. The further career was interrupted by the Second World War.

After the war, Feist continued in the GDR from the 1950s and became the first GDR individual champion for Chemie Piesteritz in 1951. He then moved to BSG Stahl Ilsenburg and won other titles in 1953, 1954 and 1958. In the two-seater he won the title in 1958 with Udo Kasten , in the mixed competition in 1953 with his wife Thea Feist . He was also runner-up in 1954 in the doubles and with Friedel Kinzel-Tietze in mixed, 1955 in singles. In 1955 all-German championships were held again, in which Feist won the title in singles and with Hermann Ohlendorf in doubles.
