Walter Plaikner

Walter Plaikner (born October 24, 1951 in Kiens , South Tyrol ) is a former Italian luge rider .

At the 1972 Olympic Games in Sapporo , he and Paul Hildgartner won the gold medal for Italy in a two-seater. They had already become world champions in Olang and European champions in Imst last year ; In 1974 in Imst they became European champions again.

Today Walter Plaikner is a luge trainer. In his long career he looked after various teams; u. a. also the Italian with the two-seater world champions Gerhard Plankensteiner and Oswald Haselrieder . For the 2013/2014 season he moved to the Russian Luge Association and looked after the home team at the Olympic Games in Sochi.
