Wolfgang Staudinger

Wolfgang Staudinger (born September 8, 1963 in Berchtesgaden ) is a former German luge athlete and today's trainer.

Wolfgang Staudinger began his career in 1978 and by the early 1980s he formed a successful duo with Johannes Schettel . In 1983 they won the German championship title. Staudinger then changed partners and, with Thomas Schwab, formed one of the most successful two-seater luge of the 1980s. Her greatest achievement was winning the bronze medal at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary . In the same year both became European champions in the doubles and with the team in Königssee . They also became German champions. The year before they won bronze at the World Championships in Igls behind Jörg Hoffmann /Jochen Pietzsch and Stefan Ilsanker / Georg Hackl . In the 1986/87 season they also won the overall World Cup for doubles ahead of Ilsanker / Hackl and Hansjörg Raffl / Norbert Huber . The year before, they were second overall in the World Cup, and third in 1982/83. The duo has won four world cup races. In 1989 he ended his active career.

After his playing career, he became a coach. He initially looked after the Canadian team for three years, then worked as a trainer in the USA and Germany. Among others, he looked after Robert Fegg and David Möller . Staudinger has been the head coach of the Canadian national team again since 2007 and is supposed to prepare it for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Canada . His contract runs for seven years. He is married to the former luge rider Marie-Claude Doyon .
