Johannes Schettel

Johannes Schettel (born April 4, 1959 in Bigge-Olsberg ) is a former German luge athlete .

Life

Schettel is the son of a hotelier ( Hotel Schettel in Bigge-Olsberg). He is a trained chef and hotel butcher with a master's degree . Schettel was one of the best German luge riders in the 1980s. He became German champion four times (1982, 1983, 1985 and 1986). At the 1989 World Cup, he won the bronze medal in singles. At the European Championships in 1988 he won gold and bronze singles in the mixed team event. In the mixed team event, silver followed at the 1990 European Championship. In the Luge World Cup he was second in 1986 and third in 1989. Schettel started for the BRC Dortmund. Schettel was for years the best in its sport until that position at the Olympia Second 1988 Calgary , Georg Hackl lost. He ended his sports career in 1989.

After his sports days, he and his wife Claudia set up a small business for sporting goods clothing in Olsberg.
