Weißenbach bei Liezen was a municipality with 1117 inhabitants (as of October 31, 2013) in Styria in the judicial district or district of Liezen im Ennstal , about three kilometers west of the district capital Liezen . As part of the structural reform of the Styrian community , Weißenbach has merged with the Liezen community from 2015, and the new community continues to use the name Liezen Township. The basis for this is the Styrian Municipal Structural Reform Act - StGsrG. A complaint brought by the municipality against the amalgamation to the Constitutional Court was unsuccessful.

The community Weißenbach bei Liezen was delimited in the east by the community Liezen , in the south by Lassing and Aigen im Ennstal , in the west by Wörschach and in the north by Hinterstoder .

history

In 1145 the place was first mentioned as Wiezenbach . In 1696 the peasants rebelled against the "field tithe ". In 1738 the scythe factory was founded by Veit Moser as a nail smithy. School lessons were first given in Weißenbach in 1830. The abolition of the manors took place in 1848. The local community as an autonomous body was established in 1850.

1914 was the founding year of the Weissenbach volunteer fire department. In 1934, when the National Socialists attempted a coup, an alleged assassin was shot at the Weißenbach railway bridge. After the annexation of Austria in 1938, the community became part of the Reichsgau Steiermark, and a Reich labor camp was set up on the Bacher grounds. 1945 to 1955 the community was part of the British zone of occupation in Austria. In 1962 the European Championships took place on the artificial toboggan run. In 1968 the newly built church in Weißenbach was consecrated.

  • The German Africa explorer Hermann von Wissmann (1853–1905) spent the last years of his life on his country estate in Weißenbach in Liezen.
