Gerhard Gleirscher (born December 14, 1969 in Innsbruck ) is an Austrian luge athlete who competed in both single and double seats with Markus Schmidt . He started at the Winter Olympics in Albertville , 1994 in Lillehammer and 1998 in Nagano . During his active time he started for the Telfes sports club .

At the 1991 Luge World Championships in Winterberg he won the silver medal in the team competition and six years later at the Luge World Championships in Igls in 1997 he won the gold medal with the Austrian relay and the bronze medal in the individual competition. Together with Markus Schmidt, he qualified for the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville, France . Together with Schmidt, he took seventh place in the two-seater.

In the Luge World Cup 1997/1998 he won the bronze medal behind Georg Hackl and Markus Prock .

family

Gleirscher's son David won a gold medal in the individual luge competition at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games, and son Nico Gleirscher also competes in international luge competitions.
