Rudolf Schmid (luge rider)
Rudolf Schmid (born March 21, 1951 in Liezen , Styria , † October 21, 2014 in Oberwart ) was an Austrian luge athlete .
Rudolf Schmid was the younger brother of Manfred Schmid , who had become individual Olympic champion in luge in Grenoble in 1968. Rudolf Schmid achieved his most important successes together with Franz Schachner in a two-seater. They won bronze at the 1974 World Championships in Königssee and 1975 Hammerstrand, as well as at the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck.
He died on October 21, 2014 in a bicycle accident in the Oberwart district of Burgenland.
