Franz Edwin Schachner (born July 20, 1950 in Liezen , Styria ) is a former Austrian luge athlete .

Schachner took part in two Olympic Games, 1972 in Sapporo and 1976 in Innsbruck , where he won a bronze medal together with Rudolf Schmid in a two-seater. Schachner also won two bronze medals in doubles at the 1974 and 1975 World Championships . He won a silver medal at the 1970 European Championships in Hammarstrand , Sweden . After his sporting career he worked as an innkeeper and was on the Liezen city council from 1993 to 1995.
