Anna-Maria Müller , later married Anna-Maria Murach , (born February 23, 1949 in Friedrichroda , † August 23, 2009 in Berlin ) was a German luge athlete .

Life and sporting development

Anna-Maria Müller's family came as resettlers from the Giant Mountains to the tobogganing stronghold Friedrichroda in Thuringia . An advertising campaign at her school led her to luge, where her trainer Hugo Oberhoffner trained various talents on the Spießbergbahn . In 1966, Müller , who started for SC Traktor Oberwiesenthal , became vice European junior champion, in 1967 she was GDR champion for the first time, which she was able to repeat in 1969. She fell at the 1967 World Cup. At the Olympic Games in Grenoble, she was initially second behind Ortrun Enderlein , but was, like the winner, disqualified on charges of unauthorized heating of the runners of her racing sled. In 1969 she became vice world champion, in 1970 European champion and fourth place in the World Cup. In 1972, a bronze medal at the European Championship was followed by victory at the 1972 Olympic Games in Sapporo . In the same year she was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in Gold.

After the Olympic Games, she finished her career and studied pharmacy . She then worked as a qualified pharmacist in the “Berliner Bär” pharmacy on Strausberger Platz in Berlin. Anna-Maria Murrach was the mother of two children.
