Melitta Sollmann (born August 20, 1958 in Gotha ) is a no longer active German luge athlete .

Melitta Sollmann started tobogganing with Hugo Oberhoffner on the Spießbergbahn in Friedrichroda in 1971 . Later she started for the ASK Vorwärts Oberhof , where she was trained by Gottfried Legler. Already in 1974 Sollmann was GDR junior champion, 1975 Spartakiadevize - 1977 Spartakiadiegerin.

In 1976 Sollmann won the title of European Junior Champion. She made her debut in the senior sector in 1977 at the World Championships in Igls , where she immediately finished fifth. 1979 was probably her successful year when she first became GDR champion, then European and finally world champion. In 1980 she won the silver medal behind Vera Zozuļa at the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid . 1981 she had another outstanding year and was again GDR and world champion. In 1982 there was another EM bronze and 1983 World Cup silver.

After her career, Sollmann, who was a sports soldier ( Feldwebel ) during her career , studied sports and became a qualified sports teacher. After the fall of the Wall she was retrained. Today she is married and lives in Friedrichroda .
