Gabriele Gabi Kohlisch (born December 7, 1963 in Karl-Marx-Stadt ) is a former German luge and bobsleigh athlete .

Career

Gabriele Kohlisch started for SC Traktor Oberwiesenthal and began her international career at the end of the 1980s in the GDR national team. In 1987 she became vice world champion, but missed the qualification for the three-man Olympic squad, which took the first three places at the games. In 1990 she became world champion for the first time, which she was able to repeat in 1995. In addition to 1987, she was vice world champion in 1991 and 1993. In 1994 she won bronze and 1996 silver at the European Championships.

At the Olympic Games Kohlisch could not achieve any success. In both Albertville and Lillehammer , she only achieved the unsatisfactory sixth place, which was particularly painful in 1994, as Kohlisch won the overall World Cup that year.

In 1997, the then 34-year-old could no longer qualify for the World Cup team against Jana Bode , Susi Erdmann , Sylke Otto , Silke Kraushaar and Barbara Niedernhuber and therefore resigned. After it was announced for 2002 that bobsleigh would become Olympic for women, Kohlisch returned to the ice rink and became the first female world champion in women's bobsleigh in 2000 in Altenberg . For the Olympic Games she was unable to prevail against Sandra Prokoff and her former toboggan competitor Susi Erdmann.

Kohlisch was active spokeswoman for the International Luge Association and active spokeswoman for the German team at the Olympic Games in Nagano . Since February 2006, she has been in charge of the sports training for prospective naval officers at the Mürwik Naval School in Flensburg - Mürwik .
