Anja Schneiderheinze (born April 8, 1978 in Erfurt , also Anja Schneiderheinze-Stöckel ) is a former German bobsleigh athlete and former speed skater .

Career

Schneiderheinze began her sporting career as a speed skater. In 1993 she was the C-Juniors, 1995 in the age group 16 to 19 and 1997 with the A-Juniors German Champion in the all-around competition. In 1995 she set the German junior record over 100 meters. She finished the all-around junior world championships in 1996 and 1997 in eleventh place. In 1998 she won the bronze medal at the German Sprint All-Around Championships behind Anke Baier and Monique Garbrecht . In January 1998, she contested her only race in the speed skating World Cup in Baselga di Pinè and finished 14th over 1000 meters.

In 2001 Schneiderheinze switched to bobsleigh and formed a two-man bobsleigh team with Sandra Kiriasis until the 2006/07 season . The team won the overall World Cup in 2004 , 2005 , 2006 and 2007 and, after finishing 2nd at the 2004 World Championships in Königssee, they achieved the 2005 World Championship title in Calgary . At the 2006 Olympic Games in Turin , the team won the gold medal.

After Sandra Kiriasis repeatedly preferred her other brakemen Berit Wiacker and Romy Logsch in the 2006/07 season , Schneiderheinze started several times in Susi Erdmann's bobsleigh . The team finished fourth at the 2007 World Cup and thus just missed a medal. Schneiderheinze has been a pilot since summer 2007. At her first international start as a pilot, the European Cup in Igls , she and her pusher Patricia Polifka won. With a total of three season successes, the team won the 2007/08 European Cup overall ranking. Schneiderheinze repeated winning the European Cup in 2009, 2010 and 2011.

In her debut in the World Cup as a pilot, Anja Schneiderheinze took second place behind Shauna Rohbock with Christin Senkel as a pusher in Igls in January 2011 . In the next two races she was second and still reached tenth place in the overall World Cup, although she only contested the second half of the season in the highest racing series. Second place in Winterberg was synonymous with silver at the European Championships behind Kiriasis / Wiacker. At the World Championships at Königssee, she was eighth. In the 2011/12 season Schneiderheinze competed in all eight races in the World Cup for the first time and won right at the start of the season in Igls. Another victory followed in St. Moritz and two second places. In no race she was placed worse than 7th place and was second in the overall standings behind Cathleen Martini and in front of Sandra Kiriasis. At the European and World Championships Schneiderheinze missed the podium as fourth and eighth respectively. In the following season she finished third in Winterberg on the podium and was fourth in the overall World Cup. With Lisette Thöne , she won silver again at the European Championships and the duo reached fifth place at the 2013 World Championships . In winter 2013/14 she finished two more third places as the best results in the World Cup, but also missed the top 10 in three races of the season and finished sixth in the final ranking. After 2006, she took part in the Olympic Games for the second time in February 2014 and took tenth place with Stephanie Schneider in Sochi .

In the post-Olympic season 2014/15 , Anja Schneiderheinze and Annika Drazek achieved her third victory as a pilot in the World Cup in St. Moritz. She finished on the podium in three other races and finished fifth in the overall standings. In La Plagne , she became European champion together with Franziska Bertels as a pusher . Ten years after her last World Cup medal as a brakeman, she won the silver medal at the World Championships in Winterberg in February 2015, both in the two-man bobsleigh with Annika Drazek and in the team competition. In the 2015/16 World Cup , Schneiderheinze finished second in the penultimate race of the season in St. Moritz and secured her first podium of the winter while defending her title at the European Championship with Drazek . At the 2016 Bobsleigh World Championship , Schneiderheinze was also world champion in the two-man bobsleigh with Drazek and won the team competition as part of the German team. In September 2016 Schneiderheinze announced the end of her career and her pregnancy.
