Elana Meyers was born in Oceanside, California and grew up in Douglasville , Georgia . Already in high school she worked in various sports teams, including softball, soccer and basketball. She earned a bachelor's degree in exercise physiology from George Washington University in 2007 and a master's degree in sports management in 2011. During her studies, she played on the university's softball team and was appointed to several selection teams. She also played professional softball for Mid-Michigan Ice in Midland , Michigan before switching to bobsleigh in 2007. In addition to sports, she is studying business administration at DeVry University .
In April 2014 she married the former bobsledder Nic Taylor and has since started under the name Elana Meyers Taylor. In 2014 she was also appointed to the squad of the US selection for rugby 7 for the first time.
In the winter of 2014/15, Elana Meyers Taylor and Kaillie Humphries were the first women to take advantage of the newly created opportunity to take part in the FIBT four-man bobsleigh. Meyers Taylor qualified as the third of the US elimination races for the World Cup squad and made her World Cup debut in Calgary in December 2014 , finishing in 16th place. In the two-man bobsleigh World Cup, she won six of the eight races of the season, winning the overall standings for the first time ahead of Humphries and Jazmine Fenlator . At the subsequent Bobsleigh World Championships in 2015 in Winterberg , she became world champion in the two-man bobsleigh for the first time with Cherrelle Garrett . In the 2015/16 season, Meyers Taylor only contested four races in the World Cup , winning the last two races of the winter. She also won two races in the European Cup . At the 2016 Bobsleigh World Championships in Igls, she won the bronze medal with Lauren Gibbs .
