Heather Moyse OPEI (born July 23, 1978 in Summerside , Prince Edward Island ) is a Canadian bobsledder , rugby player and track and field athlete .

Career

Moyse has been a member of Canada's national women's rugby team since 2004 and has played 15 international matches. She plays both as a fullback in the rugby union system and in rugby 7 . During the 2006 World Championships in Edmonton , she was the most successful participant and scored the most points with 35 in seven attempts. As the only representative of her team, she was elected to the all-star team at the World Cup. As a track and field athlete, she took part in the Canada Games in 1997 , where she represented her home province of Prince Edward Island as a sprinter and still holds the records in the 200-meter run and triple jump .

Moyse celebrated her greatest successes in bobsleigh, which she has been doing since August 2005. In her first season, she not only won the Canadian championships with her pilot Helen Upperton , she also came second in the overall World Cup . The doubles achieved a victory in St. Moritz , in Königssee and Igls they finished second and in their first race in Calgary third. The highlight was the participation in the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin , where Upperton / Moyse missed the bronze medal by just 0.05 seconds behind Gerda Weißensteiner and Jennifer Isacco in fourth place. Nevertheless, they were able to set an Olympic start record. After the games, there were only sporadic appearances at Upperton's side, Moyse also drove briefly with Lisa Szabon and Amanda Stepenko . Since the 2009/10 season , Moyse has been driving more often at the side of Kaillie Humphries , with whom she finished fifth at the 2009 Bobsleigh World Championships in Lake Placid and won a World Cup for the first time in Altenberg in December 2009 . Moyse celebrated her greatest success together with her pilot Humphries by winning the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver . At the 2011 World Bobsleigh Championship at Königssee, the duo achieved bronze.

Moyse then had to sit out for a few months in the Bobsleigh World Cup because of a shoulder injury she sustained during the rugby World Cup. In autumn 2013 she came back to the Canadian bobsleigh team. She quickly got back to her old form and was able to defend the gold medal in the two-man bobsleigh at the 2014 Winter Olympics together with Humphries. She was then selected by the Canadian National Olympic Committee together with her pilot to be the flag bearer at the final event.
