Canada Games

The Canada Games (fr. Jeux du Canada ) is a multiple sports comprehensive sports event in Canada take place every two years. Summer and winter games alternate. Only amateur athletes who represent one of the provinces or territories are admitted to the Canada Games . The first event was in 1967 in the city of Québec , as part of the Canadian Confederation's centenary .

The Canada Games Council, a private non-profit organization, has been responsible for hosting the games since 1991. In addition to the individual ratings, there is also a team rating in which the athletes collect points for their province or territory; the winning team will receive the Canada Games flag at the end of the event. In more than four decades, over 50,000 athletes have participated, making the Canada Games one of the world's largest regular sporting events. Numerous well-known athletes were first noticed at the Canada Games. These include Toller Cranston (1967), Bob Gainey (1971), Catriona LeMay Doan (1983, 1987), Sylvie Daigle (1979), Bruny Surin (1985), Maryse Turcotte (1995), Hayley Wickenheiser and Marc Gagnon (1991 ), Steve Nash (1993), Adam van Koeverden (1997), Sidney Crosby (2003) and Alexandre Despatie (1997).
