Saguenay – Lac-Saint-Jean [ saɡ.nɛ.lak.sɛ̃.ʒɑ̃ ] is an administrative region ( French région administrative ) in the center of the Canadian province of Québec .
It is further divided into four regional county municipalities (municipalités régionales de comté) and 60 municipalities, reserves and unincorporated areas. The administration is based in Saguenay .
The population is 273,461 (2011), the land area 95,892.8 km², which corresponds to a population density of 2.9 inhabitants per km². 99.7% of the population speak French and 0.2% English as their main language.
In the north-west Saguenay – Lac-Saint-Jean borders on the administrative region of North du Québec , in the east on Côte-Nord , in the south on Capitale-Nationale , in the south-west on Mauricie .

The flag was created by local historian Victor Tremblay in 1938 to mark the centenary of colonization by the first settlers in 1838. The four colors represent the four elements of Saguenay's wealth: The gray cross represents aluminum, which is an important product of the local industry. The red border represents the work of the residents. Green above represents the forest and yellow below represents agriculture.
