Abitibi-Témiscamingue is an administrative region ( French région administrative ) in the west of the Canadian province of Québec .

It is further divided into four regional county municipalities ( French municipalités régionales de comté ) and 79 municipalities, reserves and unincorporated areas. The administration is based in Rouyn-Noranda .

The population is 146,419 (2011), the land area 57,339.2 km², which corresponds to a population density of 2.6 inhabitants per km². 97.7% of the population speak French and 2.1% speak English as their main language.

Abitibi-Témiscamingue is bordered by the province of Ontario to the west, the Outaouais region to the south, and Mauricie to the east . To the north lies Nord-du-Québec , with the border running along the 49th parallel.
