Bas-Saint-Laurent is an administrative region ( French région administrative ) in the east of the Canadian province of Québec .
It is further divided into eight regional county municipalities ( French municipalités régionales de comté ) and 130 municipalities, reserves and unincorporated areas. The administrative seat is in Rimouski .
The population is 200,462 (2011), the land area 22,184.9 km², which corresponds to a population density of 9.0 inhabitants per km². 99.8% of the population speak French and 0.1% English as their main language.
Bas-Saint-Laurent borders the Gulf of Saint Lawrence to the north, the Capitale-Nationale region to the west, Chaudière-Appalaches to the southwest , the US state of Maine and the province of New Brunswick to the east, and the region Gaspésie-Îles-de-la-Madeleine .
