La Matapédia is a regional county municipality ( French municipalités régionales de comté, MRC ) in the Canadian province of Québec .
It is located in the administrative region of Bas-Saint-Laurent and consists of 25 subordinate administrative units (two cities, seven communes, one village, eight districts and seven unincorporated areas). The MRC was founded on January 1, 1982. The main town is Amqui . The population is 18,492 and the area 5354.1 km², which corresponds to a population density of 3.5 inhabitants per km².
