Sayabec is a Canadian municipality in the province of Quebec . It was founded in 1894 and had a population of 1,864 in 2011. Sayabec is located in a valley in the northern Appalachians near the mouth of the Rivière Sayabec in the western end of Lac Matapédia . The parish belongs to the Regional County Council of La Matapédia .
The Route 132 leads east-west direction through Sayabec; there is also a train station.

Sayabec is located on the south side of the St. Lawrence River , about 375 km northeast of Québec (city) and 350 km west of Gaspé . The more important cities in the vicinity are Rimouski 60 km away , Mont-Joli 30 km further west , Matane (40 km north of Sayabec) and Amqui 20 km further east .
