Capitale-Nationale is an administrative region ( French région administrative ) in the southeast of the Canadian province of Québec .
It is further divided into six regional county municipalities (municipalités régionales de comté) and 69 municipalities, reserves and unincorporated areas. The administrative seat is in the provincial capital Québec .
The population is 701,204 (2011), the land area 18,638.7 km², which corresponds to a population density of 37.6 inhabitants per km². 99.1% of the population speak French and 0.5% speak English as their main language.
In the north, Capitale-Nationale borders the administrative region Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean , in the north-east on Côte-Nord , in the east on Bas-Saint-Laurent , in the south on Chaudière-Appalaches , in the south-west on Center-du-Québec , im West to Mauricie .
