Lanaudière is an administrative region ( French région administrative ) in the south of the Canadian province of Québec . It is further divided into six regional county municipalities (municipalités régionales de comté) and 72 municipalities, reserves and unincorporated areas. The administration is based in Joliette .

The population is 469,916 (2011), the land area 12,313.3 km², which corresponds to a population density of 38.2 inhabitants per km². 98.8% of the population speak French and 0.7% English as their main language.

Lanaudière borders the administrative region of Mauricie to the north and east, Center-du-Québec to the southeast, Montérégie to the south, Laval and Montreal to the southwest, and Laurentides to the west .
