It is located in the administrative region of Lanaudière and consists of six subordinate administrative units (four cities, two districts). The MRC was founded on January 1, 1983. The main town is L'Assomption . The population is 119,074 and the area is 255.1 km², which corresponds to a population density of 466.7 inhabitants per km².
