Abitibi is a regional county municipality ( French municipalité régionale du comté, MRC ) in the Canadian province of Québec .
It is located in the administrative region of Abitibi-Témiscamingue and consists of 19 subordinate administrative units (one city, twelve municipalities, three cantonal municipalities, a district and two municipality-free areas). The MRC was founded on January 1, 1983. The main town is Amos . The population is 24,942 and the area is 7617.8 km², which corresponds to a population density of 3.3 inhabitants per km².
