features

The body of the digger wasps has a strong punctiform structure, the abdomen has yellow spots. In the females, a clear, smooth furrow is formed in front of the upper inner eye rims. As with the closely related genus Ectemnius , the males have 12 antennae. The tarsi , especially the basal part of many species, are widened in the form of a shield or lamella in the males.

Way of life

It is known from Lestica alata and Lestica subterranea that the females create their nests in the ground. Lestica clypeata has its nests in wood. All species feed their brood with small butterflies, such as moth , moth or owl butterflies .
