Nolana crassulifolia is a species of the genus Nolana inthe nightshade family (Solanaceae).
description
Nolana crassulifolia is a 20 to 150 cm high, perennial, whitish-gray subshrub that grows upright or creeping, semi-woody. The leaves are usually 4 to 20, rarely 3 to 25 mm long and are in clusters or alternate. They are pale green, succulent , more or less round and linear to linear spatulate. They are hairy with short, white, bristly trichomes , on the underside they are often clearly marked with a longitudinal notch. The leaf margin can be bent back.
The flowers stand individually on usually 15 to 20 mm long, rarely only up to 3 mm long pedicels . The calyx is 5 to 7 mm long, gray in color, cup-shaped and has five lanceolate teeth about 3 mm long. The crown is 0.7 to 1.4 cm long, white or whitish to pale blue in color and funnel-shaped. The inside of the corolla tube is hairy. The stamens are unevenly shaped and about 6 to 7 mm long. At the base the stamens are hairy and normally widened. The flower base is cup-shaped and has a curved edge. The stylus is gyno-basic, about 5 mm long and thus shorter than the stamens. It can be widened at the top. The scar is head-shaped.
The flower stalks are bent back on the fruits. They usually consist of five to nine, rarely only three partial fruits, each containing one or two seeds .
Occurrence
Nolana crassulifolia occurs between the Chilean region of Antofagasta and Valparaíso and grows near the coast between rocks at heights of up to 500 m.
