Gerda Weissensteiner
Gerda Weißensteiner (born January 3, 1969 in Bozen ) is a former Italian luge and bobsleigh rider . The South Tyrolean won the gold medal for Italy in tobogganing at the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer . In 2006 she won the Olympic bronze medal in the two-man bobsleigh in her home country with Jennifer Isacco.
Sports
Gerda Weißensteiner won the gold medal in tobogganing at the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer. By CONI was thus at the opening ceremony of the 1998 Olympics in Nagano awarded the honor of the flag bearer.
In 1998 Weißensteiner resigned from active tobogganing. In 2001 she started her second career in two-man bobsleigh with partner Antonella Bellutti (Olympic champion in cycling) . With Bellutti, Weißensteiner took seventh place at the 2002 Olympic Games . From the 2002/03 season, Jennifer Isacco was her pusher. With her she finally won a bronze medal again at the 2006 Olympic Games in Turin , before ending her successful career after the games in her own country.
She now trains the young tobogganers in her home country and is the press spokesperson for the toboggan association.
Weißensteiner lives in Steinegg in the municipality of Karneid .

Gerda Weißensteiner is one of the few athletes who have been able to celebrate World Cup victories in two different winter sports, as she won the World Cup in the two-man bobsleigh on November 22, 2002 after several World Cup victories in luge .
